Matapihi 2, 2023

Framed: 50 x 120 cmInks, pigments, acrylic on plySoldWindows are often referred to as the eyes of a building.
As an architectural feature, windows have two critical roles. The window -
matapihi in Maori - enables light, sound and sight to pass through a building,
and it allows us to look out and see the world, particularly important when
confined inside.
When looking out the window we may recognise the connection between
inside and outside. My extension to this connection is to look within and
reframe my view whilst exploring the relationship between self and nature.
Matapihi 2 is a horizontal rectangular work, set within a deep white frame
referencing the matapihi.
