Biography
In my former career as an Art teacher, my students and I studied the works of many New Zealand artists.
I relate to colour, light and spaces our artists’ record and their relevance to our place in the world. I am influenced by Bill Sutton, Susan Webb, Don Binney, Rita Angus and many of our talented Central Otago artists.
My daily walks and climbs take me above the Alexandra Basin. From here I can see Leaning Rock, Kopuwai, The Hawkduns and the winding passage of the Clutha River.
These striations and landscape layers provide the material for my work. Textural elements reference what lies beneath us.
After leaving the classroom, I have had the luxury of time to paint. I am enjoying playing with surface textures and foils to add interest. I tend to use the earth and cool palettes which dominate our landscape.
